Russian Marines, Indian Commandos Preparing for Anti-Piracy Stage of Navy Drills



Indian Special Forces and Russian Pacific Fleet Marines have discussed the actions for the upcoming anti-piracy stage of the joint Russian-Indian naval exercises, Indra Navy 2016, spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry's Eastern Military District Vladimir Matveev said Sunday.

"Today [Sunday], at the headquarters of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy in the city of Visakhapatnam, a joint meeting of representatives of the Indian Special Forces Command and the Command of the [Russian[ Pacific Fleet Marine units took place. During the meeting the sides discussed the issues of the upcoming search operation under the framework of the upcoming anti-piracy stage of the active phase of the Indra Navy 2016 exercise," Matveev said.

He added that the sides exchanged their experience regarding operations in the Gulf of Aden.

Indra Navy 2016 drills are being held in the Bay of Bengal through December 14-21. This year, some 500 servicemen are set to be engaged in the drills, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The first joint Russian-Indian naval drills were held in 2003. The exercises were also held in 2007, 2014 and 2015

China on Tuesday unveiled its J-20 stealth fighter jet at its biggest air show which will have major implications for India as it is the first indigenously-made fifth-generation Chinese aircraft which Pakistan has shown interest in acquiring. Two J-20 aircraft which made waves in the Chinese media in the last few years flew at the Zhuhai city air show where the Pakistan Air Force is also taking part flying with its J-17 Thunder jets which are jointly manufactured with China. Strengthening its base in Kashmir, the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has gone for its first real estate investment in the trouble-torn Valley. The right wing party has signed an “agreement” to buy a residential house on the high-security Airport Road in Srinagar. Located in Hyder Pora locality, the 2-storeyed-house lies near the residence of senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Official sources in judiciary privy to the deal said that the party opted for “agreement” with the actual owner of the property, while almost 80% payment has been made. Sources said the BJP will “own the building through a trust.” Till now, the party operates from a government-owned accommodation, a house at J-1 Jawahar Nagar in south city.  Sources said that the sale deed for the new building around Kanal land would be signed in the coming days.
