Some 2,500 soldiers of the Russian Airborne Forces took part in large-scale military exercises in the Crimean peninsula, that Russia annexed in 2014.
In course of the command-and-staff exercise of the Russian Airborne troops held at the Opuk range in Crimea, a battalion tactic group of the Novorossiysk airborne-assault (mountain) division was airdropped with armament and military hardware.

Up to 40 scouts of the reconnaissance unit jumped from Il-76 aircraft from the altitude of 1,300 meters using the Arbalet-2 special parachute systems. The main forces (more than 300 servicemen) were airdropped from the altitude of 800 meters using D-10 parachutes.

The servicemen also carried out the seaborne operation and landed on an unequipped coast as well as airdrop operation from helicopters.
