New Delhi orders construction of Rail link from Pathankot to Leh for 'Swift Mobilization of Troops' to Counter CHINA


Former cabinet minister and senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar on Friday said that the Centre has given its nod for laying of a broad-gauge rail line from Pathankot to Leh which will act as a “strategic defence link.”

Speaking to the media at Dharamshala on Friday, the BJP MP from Kangra constituency said that this new rail link will touch Dharamshala and its adjoining Army bases and a survey for this upcoming project has already begun.

“This rail line shall be laid down by the Indian Army according to their requirements, and can be used by the civilians,” the former Himachal Pradesh CM said.

Kumar said that this project is a “necessity” to counter China as it has already created a big rail-road network around India’s borders. He said that the century old Pathankot- Joginder Nagar narrow-gauge rail line “will not be disturbed” in order to construct the new rail link. He said unlike previous governments in New Delhi, the Narendra Modi-led NDA government is taking efforts to strengthen India’s borders.

Another rail link project from Bhanupali (Nangal) to Leh via Mandi has also been cleared by the Centre

China on Tuesday unveiled its J-20 stealth fighter jet at its biggest air show which will have major implications for India as it is the first indigenously-made fifth-generation Chinese aircraft which Pakistan has shown interest in acquiring. Two J-20 aircraft which made waves in the Chinese media in the last few years flew at the Zhuhai city air show where the Pakistan Air Force is also taking part flying with its J-17 Thunder jets which are jointly manufactured with China. This is the first, public show of the J-20 warplane. Pakistan, the largest importer of Chinese arms has said earlier that it is in talks with China to buy the FC-31 - an export variant of the same aircraft. Strengthening its base in Kashmir, the ruling Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has gone for its first real estate investment in the trouble-torn Valley. The right wing party has signed an “agreement” to buy a residential house on the high-security Airport Road in Srinagar. Located in Hyder Pora locality, the 2-storeyed-house lies near the residence of senior separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani. Official sources in judiciary privy to the deal said that the party opted for “agreement” with the actual owner of the property, while almost 80% payment has been made. Sources said the BJP will “own the building through a trust.” Till now, the party operates from a government-owned accommodation, a house at J-1 Jawahar Nagar in south city.  Sources said that the sale deed for the new building around Kanal land would be signed in the coming days.
