Outgoing Indian Air Force Air chief marshal Arup Raha has confirmed that long pending “Make in India” Tata-Airbus C-295 aircraft project will be concluded in next Six months to replace the ageing Avro fleet of the IAF. Procurement of 56 C-295 medium transport aircraft for IAF and 6 for Indian coast Guard ( multimission maritime aircraft variant ) have been cleared by Government of India to be manufactured locally in India by Tata-Airbus consortium.
According to original plans, first 16 aircraft will be brought off the shelf manufactured in Airbus facilities and remainder of 46 aircraft would be manufactured at Tata-Airbus facilities in India and all C-295 aircraft will be delivered within eight years of concluding the agreement. Tata-Airbus consortium expects further orders which will swell combined C-295 orders beyond 75 aircraft with repeat orders coming from Indian Air Force.
Rumours around India choosing C-295 also to replace 100 odd ageing Soviet-era An-32 Transports were squashed by Raha earlier when he said that, An-32 will not be replaced by C-295 and India is still separately negotiating with Russia in Joint development of Multi-role Transport Aircraft (MTA), while Ukraine has also made counter offer with Upgraded An-32 in new avatar called has AN-132D will new modern Avionics package with Western FADEC system integrated engines to power AN-132D ,Jointly to be developed in India with Reliance Defence .
