INDIAN LCA Tejas to fire Python 5 Air to Air CCM next month


TEJAS is reported to test-fire the Close Combat Missile (CCM) Python-5 Air-To-Air missile for the first time next week, informed sources confirmed today.

Air Force Technology website reports the Python-5 as a 5th generation air-to-air missile (AAM) manufactured by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems. It is the newest member in the range of Python AAMs. The missile demonstrates superior target detection and tracking capabilities, involving captive carry evaluation and homing trials. The missile can engage enemy aircraft from very short ranges and near beyond visual range. Python-5 is the most accurate and reliable AAM of the Israeli Air Force and one of the most sophisticated guided missiles in the world.

Earlier, in Feb 2016, Tejas conducted the first test firing of the beyond visual range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM), Derby.

Certification of Derby BVRAAM and Python-5 CCM on LCA-Tejas completes critical component of the LCA-Tejas program since now LCA-Tejas can be configured to perform Air defence combat roles and will be deputed in forward airbases once full squadron aircraft are delivered to the Indian Air Force.

China on Tuesday unveiled its J-20 stealth fighter jet at its biggest air show which will have major implications for India as it is the first indigenously-made fifth-generation Chinese aircraft which Pakistan has shown interest in acquiring. Two J-20 aircraft which made waves in the Chinese media in the last few years flew at the Zhuhai city air show where the Pakistan Air Force is also taking part flying with its J-17 Thunder jets which are jointly manufactured with China. KANCHAN ARMOUR~ Protection cover for INDIAN TANKS

Kanchan Armour is the name informally given to a modular composite armour developed by India. The armour uses the same principle as the British Chobham armour, but the composition is different. The armour got its name from Kanchan Bagh, Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, where the Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) is located. Although the construction details of the armour remain a secret, it has been described as being made by sandwiching composite pane ls between rolled homogeneous armour (RHA). The number of layers may vary based on the user requirements.
